Celebrating the art of books and film

This blog was started as a way for me to write about writing and reviewing media in the entertainment industry. I am a little slower on the book reviews, but that’s only because I really do spend a lot of time thinking about what is happening in the book. I suppose all reviewers do this or have their process, but I like to savour books and take my time with them. So this blog will never be me slamming out one book review after the next. And it’s the same with film. But I am really starting to see things crossing over in between books, art, posters and book cover design and I am going to start blogging about book cover art and movie posters along with my reviews.

I really do feel that I simply cannot just use words for the things I love to do. Just as cinema is a visual medium, I believe books can overlap with visual art as well. Book cover art is fantastic, and I will be uploading book covers that I find online for their aesthetic, and I might even choose a book solely on its cover and challenge myself to read it. They say “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but I believe that book cover art is just as important as the words written on the pages within.

Here’s one I found on Pinterest that I liked with the cover designed by RBC

It speaks volumes about the journey that both of the characters take and their impending doom. I suppose it’s a huge spoiler, but if you haven’t read the play or know anything about the characters, it would be a little intriguing, wouldn’t it?

I’ve also thought about animating some of the covers that I like. I’ve already started doing this for the books I am reviewing. I haven’t revealed the current cover yet as I am still working on that one for “Lurking” so watch this space!
