Dead Roses
Dead Roses never did anyone any harm
Except their thorns seem to shine in the light
Kind of like little pins of pain
Dead Roses sometimes make me feel
Like love existed once and somehow became lost
On its journey between two hearts
that thought they were one
Dead Roses are no longer pretty
Unless you think of death as attractive
I guess some people do because
They still hold onto the past
Trying to hold onto a heart
That didn’t have a problem
With just letting go…
But I don’t really know
I mean I’ve never owned
Dead Roses before
But I bet if they could talk
There’d be many tales to tell
Of love lost and lost once more
On its journey between two hearts
That thought they were one.
