NANOWRIMO Diary – Day 19

Hello again, my fellow writers! We are now into day 18/19 of our NANOWRIMO challenge! How are you holding up?

Well, I’ve fallen a little behind on my NANOWRIMO targets that I set myself daily to keep moving forward. I totally blame myself for this because I got a wee bit distracted with making posters and other non-writing related things and not writing. But that’s okay, I think I needed a bit of a breather to recollect my thoughts while still focusing on the characters and their world. For me, NANOWRIMO is a journey of self-discovery as a writer. As this is my first attempt, I am finding things out about myself as a writer which makes this journey all the more special I think. The second most important thing about NANOWRIMO is that it is a true challenge – one that I’ve never had before. As I have not really published my writing online properly until just recently, I lack the experience of writing competitively or for any type of challenge, really. This is something I wish to pursue going forward as I writer. I mean how can you know if you have what it takes if you don’t challenge yourself? You can never learn about yourself or your limitations without doing that. Even though it’s daunting and I still have that feeling of self-doubt that creeps up every now and then, this experience has given me a whole new understanding of the craft of writing and my place within this reality as a writer.

So when people say writing is hard, it is. But it will only stay that way if I don’t improve. This is one of many things I have learned this month.

What about you, fellow writers? Is there anything special about this NANOWRIMO challenge that sticks out for you in particular? Are you new to the challenge as I am? How did it make you feel about writing? Are you missing your targets or staying focused on finishing your draft like a pro? Please do let me know in the comments as I’d love to hear about your experiences.

If you’re new to my blog – thank you for coming and welcome! I will assume you’re here for the writing so my current story is the second part to Tales of the West Book I Part I which you can read right here. The first part is Milly’s story which you can read here.

And as always thank you for your readership, your likes and your support, it means the world to me.
