I’ve been thinking a lot about my writing and what to do with it. Since finishing NaNoWriMo I think I became a little burned out if that makes any sense. But I am looking forward to my holidays soon where I get three weeks off from work. My goal is to focus on my writing and decide how best to promote it and move forward.
I am also way too sensitive when it comes to followers and follower counts and if I see that I’ve lost a follower it actually makes me feel kinda sad. I wish I wasn’t like that and I wish I was tougher about it but I’m not. My writing is basically everything to me. I honestly never felt so connected to my writing as I have since doing NaNoWriMo. It is both a gift and a curse I think. It’s wonderful because I feel like when I write, nothing else matters – only my characters and the world I am creating. But at the same time, I think about how I will need to promote my writing and that part of it scares me because I have never been good at that sort of thing. I am too shy and introverted to “push” myself to become a social media promoter. But unfortunately, the only way you can grow as a writer these days is by making people aware of you.
I did have an idea that is something I know one of the writers I follow does with his writing and that is he talks about each chapter without spoiling it to garner interest so that people are aware of what is coming. I thought that was a brilliant thing to do and I might start doing that by promoting my chapter and then uploading it shortly after. Nothing aggressive or “in your face” but just maybe a quick mini-synopsis of where the characters are in the story and where they could be headed.
So I am going to try that tomorrow. I have also created both a twitter and IG account for my writing and so far, I am slowly but surely gaining some followers who are all potential advocates of your writing, right?
Anyway, thanks for reading. I am now off to do what I mostly do on Saturdays and that is watch a whole lot of movies with my partner and think about where I can take my characters next 🙂
If you’re new to my blog – thank you for coming and welcome! I will assume you’re here for the writing and you can read my Tales of the West series starting with Milly’s story (Part I) and Ethan’s follow-up story recently completed (Part II).
