Hello, fellow readers and writers and everyone in-between! I hope you are doing well, keeping safe and doing something wonderfully creative.
I decided to knuckle down on some of my goals listed in an earlier post, and I’ve finally found the next book I will read. It was so random how I found this book. I went through email and came across an ad for Gil Adamson’s follow-up book to “The Outlander” called “Ridgerunner”. I didn’t know who Gil Adamson was nor had I heard of either of these books. Still, when I read the synopsis for “The Outlander” (not to be confused with Outlander by Diana Gabaldon), I felt like I was reading something I had dreamed of writing myself, something that really hit me deep down somewhere in my writing “soul”. I resonated with this character straightaway.
When it comes to reading, I am the fussiest person on planet Earth, so I am making a blog post about finding my next book to read. It has taken me months to find something I actually want to put all of my time into. It’s tough for me to find a book that I can feel comfortable with. I don’t know why that is, but it makes it a lot harder for me to read as much as I want to. But when I do find the right book, I will consume it as quickly as possible.
When I started reading the synopsis of this book, it made me think of Roseanna Beaucannon, the character from the next chapter of Tales of the West. It was so familiar to me, so of course, I must read it and see whether I can get back my inspiration to continue Roseanna’s story.
Here is the synopsis and cover from Goodreads:
The Outlander
(The Boultons #1)
by Gil Adamson 3.73 · Rating details · 8,954 ratings · 1,452 reviews In 1903, a mysterious young woman flees alone across the West, one heart-pounding step ahead of the law. At nineteen, Mary Boulton has just become a widow—and her husband’s killer. As bloodhounds track her frantic race toward the mountains, she is tormented by mad visions and by the knowledge that her two ruthless brothers-in-law are in pursuit, determined to avenge their younger brother’s death. Responding to little more than the primitive fight for life, the widow retreats ever deeper into the wilderness—and into the wilds of her own mind—encountering an unforgettable cast of eccentrics along the way.

How do you find the books you like to read? Is it easy for you to read anything or are you more like me and picky with the books you read? Do you read to read, or do you read to find inspiration and creativity?
Let me know dear readers, I am keen to hear how you’re all getting on! Please reach out to me in the comments!

I think when I was a kid I would read anything and everything. Then I got older and my tastes in books began to change and I think that is when I started getting picky about books. But you’re right, reading should be about expanding yourself as a person, I love that idea! Thanks for commenting 🙂

That sounds like a good book! I’m usually a fairly picky reader. Books tend to come to me in all kinds of different ways–I’m browsing in the library and one kind of leaps out; or I’ve had one on my list for awhile but for whatever reason I’m not ready for that story, but then suddenly I AM ready and I wondered why I waited so long. But when I’m part of my sister’s book club we decide on a book as a group, and I’m fine with that. Lately I’ve only been reading the Star Wars books, and I gravitate toward characters or storylines I love. Sometimes you find a book through serendipity, and those turn out to be the best books!

I think I found this book for a reason lol I know that sounds silly but it’s exactly the type of writing I want to do and in the right genre so I think it might really help me out of my writing lump 🙂
