Hello fellow writers and readers! I hope you have all had a nice start to your weekend, and you have lots of writing projects to keep you busy.
I’d like to say that I think I’ve found the writing competition I want to enter. It’s a Vocal competition where the best article can win USD 10,000.00. Obviously, having a monetary reward is great motivation, but that’s not even in my scope. If we go back a few posts, you’ll recall I made a list of goals which was later revised. On that list is one goal I have never attempted before. So I am feeling quite anxious but also excited to have found something I actually want to do, and it just happens to be a competition.
The competition is this one:
Grand Prize: $10,000
Second place: $2,500
Third place: $1,000
Plus, five runner-ups will receive one year of Vocal+ free.
Dates to know
Feb. 23: Submissions open
March 30, 11:59pm EST: Submissions close
April 9: Winners announced
About this Challenge
If you’re anything like us, you base your own entertainment choices on recommendations from people you trust. Sometimes that means turning to an outlet like our partner Decider for those recommendations, but for this Challenge, we’re hoping you’ll help out one another.
Share the perfect formula to help viewers like you decide what to watch next by taking a show or movie that most people know and love and making your recommendations for fellow fans from there. If your favourite movie is Goodfellas, then the show you should check out is definitely Peaky Blinders. If you can’t get enough of Pride and Prejudice, then Bridgerton is the show for you. If you love the original Dune, add Snowpiercer to your watch list. Enter the If This, Then That Challenge by sharing your own recommendations based on the shows and movies you love, and give guidance to help others discover their new favourites.
Basically, you have to put together an article that uses “if this then that” where you are using a TV show or a film as an example to base your other recommendations. Let’s say I want to use Star Wars A New Hope as my movie. I will talk about that film and why it is necessary to consider these other interesting films or TV shows because they are similar to Star Wars.
I think it’s the perfect competition because it is about film and film next to Star Wars is my thing. I am a film critic, so writing something like this should be second nature to me. I guess we’ll see about that. I don’t want to enter to win or even place. I want to enter because I’ve never entered a writing competition before, and it’s on my list of goals to achieve this year.
It is also my birthday this month, so I’d like to celebrate it by doing something new and exciting.
So that’s my update, dear writing friends. Not much today but something quite fundamental to my growth as a writer. Let me know if you’ve made any steps towards your writing goals, no matter how big or small.
