Writing Update #12 – Quick Goal Update

Hello fellow writers and readers! I hope you are having a safe and creative weekend. Just a quick update on my side of things regarding the goals I set myself a couple months back. It is time for a recap on those goals:

The revised list looked something like this

  1. Complete Joe Bunting’s How to Write a Book/Story Structure course
  2. Continue writing the Tales of the West series with my new book and new character Roseanna Beaucannon – see my post here.
  3. Upload my completed stories to Wattpad – REVISED no longer uploading to Wattpad as I don’t think my writing is a good fit.
  4. Continue to look for and follow-up on prospective writing opportunities in the entertainment industry – I am now blogging for pop culture website KLM but also revised this goal a little (more on that later)
  5. Consider other half-written stories and whether or not to expand them – WIP.
  6. Write more poetry – WIP.
  7. Read more authors in the genres that I intend to write for – I’ve started doing this slowly but surely, finding authors and stories I can relate to and use as references for my own writing
  8. Enter a writing competition (the goal is to enter one, not win but to win would obviously be fantastic!) I have never ever competed in a writing competition, so I’d really like to do this – WIP

I am removing the goals I’ve achieved or completed from the list and I do have a small update regarding goal number 2 below which I am excited about. I have been actively sending out writing queries to other sites, sites that are bigger than mine and will hopefully be a good fit for my writing. I have heard back from one of those places this weekend. I will be setting up a meeting with their HR dept some time this week hopefully and I’ll have more to report on then but it all sounds promising.

So my revamped goals list looks a little something like this now:

  1. Continue writing the Tales of the West series with my new book and new character Roseanna Beaucannon – see my post here.
  2. Continue to look for and follow-up on prospective writing opportunities in the entertainment industry – one down one more to go (fingers crossed)
  3. Consider writing or rewriting some of my short stories or expand on them (WIP)
  4. Write more poetry (haven’t done a thing in this regard but I will!) (WIP)
  5. Read more authors in the genres that I intend to write for – BIG WIP as I am not finding enough time right now to read as much as I would like
  6. Enter a writing competition – I have started several drafts for this competition but I haven’t decided which one I want to use. I still have 10 days to get my draft written and rewritten and edited which will be several times before I am happy with the finished draft. I will post my completed article on this blog once I’ve finished with it.

One last comment I’d like to make is that I am not the “update every day, check goals every hour” type of person when it comes to goal setting. Like most of my writing, it’s done mostly on “the fly”. I don’t set aside time for anything, I kinda just do it. I plan a little but mostly, I leave it to “how things are on the day” sort of thing. Which surprises me because it doesn’t feel like I am trying very hard but at the same time it does. My goals are always in the back of my mind and a month or so back it was beginning to stress me out a little. But I feel totally comfortable with these goals now. My anxiety is being held at bay and the fear-monster isn’t rearing its ugly head at me, at least not in the last few weeks (and that’s a definite positive).

Let me know how you are getting on with your goals – they don’t have to be about writing. I am happy to hear about anything from anyone who wants to share.

If you’re new to my blog, welcome, dearest writer! On this blog, you will find content about writing, the writer’s life and thoughts on the writing process.

You will also find tips and tricks and a specific focus on fiction writing from a first-time fiction writer (that’s me!)

I wish you the best in your writing endeavours and would love it if you’d join me on the writing journey by following me here.

Thank you for your support! Stay safe out there and do what you can to keep writing!
